A hailstorm struck the wider Brisbane region on Sunday 26 October 2025, followed by further hail and damaging winds from 31 October to 2 November. The Insurance Council of Australia declared it a significant event (SE 254) on 28 October 2025 and extended the declaration on 5 November.
Alongside Brisbane and Ipswich, smaller communities including Clifton, Pratten and Esk were hit particularly hard.
The damage. Hail-damaged vehicles, smashed windows, shattered solar panels, roof damage and fallen trees, with food spoilage from power outages. Around 26,000 claims had been lodged by 5 November 2025; the ICA’s data hub later recorded roughly 40,500 claims and about $986 million in incurred losses (as at May 2026; figures revise over time).
No single authoritative maximum hail size was published for this event, so we don’t quote one.
Can you still claim? Yes, in most cases. This is a documented, ICA-declared event, which makes tying roof damage to it much easier for an assessor. If you’re in the affected areas and haven’t had your roof checked since late October 2025, a free inspection will settle it either way.
